I was so excited when I got my swap partner this time around - it's Stephanie from Falling Into First!
She is seriously so sweet and has some of the cutest art projects in her store! I ended up not doing an art project for my swap product, though, I chose one that we would get to do throughout the entire year - A Classroom Timeline!
Stephanie explains the project in her blog post here.
Hawaii has a 2nd grade social studies standard about timelines, so this product was perfect for me! Stephanie includes 10 different color options for your timeline, so you can choose which one matches your classroom decor the best. I chose blue.
Here it is, waiting for my laminator to heat up!
In addition to the classroom timeline, there are printables for students to make their own timeline, too. She gives directions for how to tape the pages together so they fold out, accordion style. I decided to staple the pages together in a packet for now. Then at the end of the year, when the pages are all filled out, we will tape them together and assemble the timeline correctly.
Here is a student decorating the cover of her personal timeline pages.
My school emphasizes interactive writing in grades K-2, so I used that technique when doing our classroom timeline. The kids came up with the ideas and we talked about punctuation and spelling as a student wrote the message on the page. After the page was completed, I taped it to the wall with blue painter's tape. I had another student illustrate the message, then I taped that one up as well.
Here is the beginning of our timeline.
I can't wait to continue this project each month, and reminisce on all the fun things we have done together as a class. Thank you to Stephanie for creating such an important product!

In celebration of the Product Swap, I am having a sale through the weekend!
Stephanie is also allowing me to give away one copy of this Timeline product! There are THREE ways to enter. Just follow these directions:
- Tell me what kind of events your class would highlight each month on a class timeline - exciting lessons, class parties, field trips, etc.
- Follow my blog (via Google Friend Connect or Networked Blogs) and leave a comment telling me you did.
- Follow Stephanie's blog (Falling Into First) and leave another comment telling me you did.
I will use Random.org to choose a winner tomorrow night. Good luck to everyone!
Ooh I follow your blog (and Stephanie's)! I started to do something similar in my class this year, but it would be nice for the students to have a writing piece to go along with it. We just have photos on our wall right now.

Love your post and this resource is so cute too!! ;) Hope you are well!
ReplyDeleteI am a follower of both of you! If I won this I would highlight an academic skill or topic that we studied that month. I might include a picture of the activities or special project that we did to master that skill. I teach 3rd so I would have a different student do the writing part each time. I MIGHT even have the kids keep a "mini" version of their own in a notebook. This is a great product!
