A favorite all-time gift was received from a student of mine and his family naming me their all-time favorite teacher. We had a special bond together - you see - when he came into my classroom, AJ never talked. All he did was grunt for things he wanted. He was ASD along with other diagnosed things which didn't matter to me. To me, he was a boy, a boy with a mouth, a voice and a voice that needed to be heard - LOUD AND CLEAR!!!!! And with years of working together, we accomplished just that. On Christmas, two years ago, I created a book for him to read. I video taped him reading to his Mom and made it into a movie. It was awesome. Something to treasure. So, on Valentines Day, when I look at this plaque, I not only think of AJ but of OUR accomplishment together.....It surely was a great journey together.

I guess my most memorable would have to be the big bouquet of red silk roses with dew drop on them. The little boy who brought them was so proud when he handed them to me. I still have them as part of my housekeeping area. My kinders love pretending with them.
ReplyDeleteIt would have to be a box of chocolates from a local chocolate factory and I had never had them before because I was new to the area. I also got some Cheryl's cookies once. Yum!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite was a little stuffed dog that a student gave me during student teaching. It clearly was used and was his, but he gave it to me! I felt so special and I still have it almost 6 years later! :)
ReplyDeleteMy best gift was a hair clip. It was my first year teaching, and this little girl was so sweet, but came from a very underprivileged family.. she brought me this little hair clip... rusted...that she had painted with polka dots, my favorite. ReplyDeleteI love all of the homemade cards! One gift that really stands out to me was a few years ago one little boy brought me a heart shaped plate with cookies on it, but underneath all of the cookies was a plate that was personalized. It said...The Jaquillard Family. How sweet for this little boy and his family to think of me and my family on Valentine's Day.
ReplyDeleteMjaquillard@oregoncs.org
Favorite Valentine's gift from a child - that's a hard one because I teach in a small rural area where most of our kids receive a free lunch......so I'll have to say a dirty stuffed animal from a child's house. It was very well loved. I did manage later to get the child to take it back to her/his house by saying it was lonely at my house and needed to get back with her friends. It worked. I just couldn't take a child's toy.

I seldom get gifts and received none this year! I don't know what it is about special education, but sped teachers don't seem to be thought of when it comes to gift giving. My favorite thing I received though about 3 years ago was a set from bath and body works.
